There is no second tier and no cabochon centre to work around. The diamond is cut into the same plane as the signet face, so the whole piece depends on that single line being true.
We hold a tolerance far narrower than the trade does. Stones that would pass anywhere else are sent back. That is the whole business, and it is the reason a ZALXNDRA piece looks the way it does at arm's length.
The setting is built in order, tier by tier, by a single setter. Nothing is farmed out mid-piece. It is slower, and it is the only way the outer wall closes cleanly.
