Objects of Consequence
Gifts that changed the register of a room, and what they were really saying.
Written from Dubai by Faiz Fikak
Every so often an object changes the temperature of a room before anyone speaks. A sword, a set of keys, a stone with a history attached. Somebody chose it, and the choice was read exactly as intended.
This series takes those moments apart. Who gave what, to whom, at which point in the story, and what the object was doing that a letter could not have done. Some of it is diplomacy. Some of it is business. All of it is the same instinct, which is that the right thing given at the right moment is worth more than the sum of its materials.
Faiz Fikak is a Graduate Gemologist and the founder of ZALXNDRA. He has spent more than twenty five years handling pieces of this kind, and writes from Dubai.
If you have a moment coming that is worth an object, we make them to commission.
